From Idea to Business - A Journey You Don’t Have to Walk Alone

Everything often begins quite simply - with an idea.

You think about it constantly. You enthusiastically sketch the first outline of your creative concept. You work to create something new to offer your city, your town or village - perhaps you are even imagining something that reaches beyond your country’s borders.

Or perhaps you are already active: you write, paint, take photographs, design, organise festivals, manage cultural projects, work within a creative enterprise, or dedicate space to creative practice. You might even have a small team. Perhaps you have developed your first product, led several successful events - and everything has gone well so far.

And yet, at some point, certain questions inevitably arise: How do I turn this into a sustainable business? How should I plan my finances? How do I set the right price? How can I protect my intellectual property? Where can I secure funding?

You begin to realise that inspiration alone is not enough - you need structure.

Not only talent, but effective process management.

Not only an idea, but a business model.

This is exactly the turning stage at which the Creative Skills Academy is designed to step in - a professional development platform that bridges creativity and business, helping people living in Georgia’s regions transform their ideas into viable professional and economic opportunities.

The Creative Skills Academy is implemented through the collaboration of the Goethe-Institut Georgien and the Design Institute. For many years, the Goethe-Institut Georgien has supported the development of culture and the creative industries in Georgia, initiating numerous impactful projects in this field. The Design Institute is a Georgian educational and research institution specialising in design-led education, creative management and human-centred innovation. With substantial experience in hybrid learning models, long-term educational programmes and sector-specific mentoring, the Institute leads the Academy’s educational programming, mentorship framework and collaborative components.

Why the Creative Skills Academy Matters - and Who It Is For

Across Georgia’s regions, many active and talented creative professionals are developing diverse initiatives and ideas. Yet their progress is often constrained not by a lack of talent, but by limited access to professional training, business expertise and financial knowledge.

The mission of the Creative Skills Academy is to address precisely this gap. It equips regional creative professionals with the skills and experience required to build competitive, sustainable ventures in today’s market environment. In doing so, participants contribute not only to their own professional growth, but also to the development of their regions and Georgia’s broader creative economy.

An idea alone is rarely enough. With the right support, however, it can become the foundation of a successful and sustainable business.

Six Months That Transform Your Perspective

The Academy’s core component is a six-month Creative Business basics programme.

Imagine dedicating six months to developing your idea not only as a creator, but as an entrepreneur. You learn from leading experts how to develop a robust business model, refine your branding, communication and strategic positioning, manage production processes and teams effectively, plan finances in a way that turns numbers into tools for confident decision-making.

Each lecturer and invited expert under the Creative Skills Academy brings hands-on experience in business, finance, law, marketing or creative production.

The programme extends beyond lectures and workshops. It includes individual mentoring, expert consultations and structured knowledge exchange. Participants work on their own projects while receiving continuous feedback and professional guidance, significantly enhancing both the quality and real-world applicability of their outcomes.

The programme is delivered in a hybrid format combining online and in-person sessions - creating flexibility while fostering meaningful professional connections among participants from different regions of the country.

At the end of the programme, participants present their projects to potential partners and investors. By this stage, each idea has evolved into a clearly articulated, strategically grounded concept with strong potential to become a viable business.

Additional Opportunities: For those unable to enroll in the six-month programme, the Creative Skills Academy also offers short-term educational opportunities. Later on, additional sessions and masterclasses will be organised for a broader group of creative sector professionals. These will cover creative topics such as storytelling, photography and the development artistic residencies and creative spaces, as well as business-oriented themes including finance, legal frameworks and branding. Particular emphasis will be placed on contemporary trends and technological developments, ensuring that participants are prepared not only for today’s market, but for tomorrow’s challenges as well.

In Conclusion

Upon completing the Creative Business Basics programme, participants will have developed comprehensive business plans and gained the skills needed to manage production and finances more effectively, protect their intellectual property and define clear digital and communication strategies.

Equally important, they will expand their professional networks, increase their visibility and establish new collaborations across the country.

This process strengthens not only individual projects but also the regional creative ecosystem as a whole. It fosters spaces for knowledge exchange and innovation, contributing to the continued development of Georgia’s cultural and creative industries sector.

If you would like to transform your creative idea into a real business, register for the Creative Business Basics programme by March 9.

The Creative Skills Academy is a new educational initiative under the Creative Compass Georgia, implemented in collaboration with the Design Institute. Creative Compass Georgia is a four-year EU-funded (2023–2027) project implemented and co-financed by the Goethe-Institut Georgien.
